What is the best way to learn a wedding dance ?

There are 2 main ways to learn, either private lessons or group lessons.

Vertical Divider
Private Lessons:
Your personal trainer for learning to dance.

The advantage of Private lessons is that teaching is concentrated on you, your dance and your chosen piece of music, so learning is a lot quicker and you learn at your pace.

Private lessons can be just the bride and groom or can include the bridal party in some or all of the lessons.
Group Lessons:
Join a with a group or people to learn.

Group lessons are a cheaper way to learn and a great way to develop your skills over a longer time frame. Think of it as building a foundation.
You will cover steps, timing and lead/follow in a variety of dances.

Groups are a broad way to learn so to personalise your dance, consider having some private lessons leading up to the wedding.

Info you might find useful

Choosing a song:
A good place to start is the mood or feel you would like, slow and romantic, upbeat and fun, traditional, it can be anything you want. That can include mash ups with hip hop, contemporary, the dance from Dirty Dancing. We'll help if you need ideas.
For a little more information read our blog

When do we start:
Usually between 6 to 3 months before is best.  If it takes you a while to learn something or you are looking for something with a real wow factor, give yourselves time to learn so you can relax and enjoy the moment.

Consider starting with some group lessons to build a foundation of how to move comfortably together, but it certainly is not necessary, you can concentrate on your dance in private lessons if that's all that interests you.

Things to keep in mind:
  • Try not to leave it to the last minute, the more time you have the more comfortable and natural you will feel. However, we are happy to help with any crash courses needed!!
  • Practice helps make you feel more comfortable (use our space free).
  • Take the size of the dance floor and the style of the dress into account when you think about the moves you want to include.
  • It's a good idea to have a practice in your wedding shoes.
  • If your bridal party is joining you during the wedding dance, you may like to have a lesson or two with the bridal party; this can also be a lot of fun.
  • If you have a reluctant partner, perhaps suggest that all the lessons are for the whole bridal party so they may not feel so intimidated, maybe after a couple of lessons they may even decide to have a lesson or two on your own

What our couples say :

Thanks so much for helping with our first dance. We feel we did pretty well and even dipped at exactly the right moment, incredible. We cannot wait to see the video and photos from it.
